Challenging Yourself

Goal setting is a vital part of being human. Challenging yourself contributes to your personal growth and development as a person.  In order to appreciate success, you have to learn to accept failure as they are both crucial to progression.

Some people prefer to set personal challenges in the workplace, on the field, at school, or even at home.  Exceeding sales targets, improving your shot, getting straight A's, or painting the house are conventional ways to test your ambition.

Perhaps you will agree that when you achieve a goal, you are rewarded with a sense of gratitude and pride. You begin to feel more in tune with yourself as your confidence level increases.

It is not uncommon to be confronted with various obstacles such as fear, lack of will power, or loss of courage during your endeavours.  But when you have successfully conquered those thoughts in your mental framework, you start to taste the fruits of your labour and grow as an individual.

Recently my friend sent me a link containing the headline "Woman walking across the US - because she felt like it."  Out of curiousity, I read the MSNBC article and found it truly inspiring to learn about one woman's (Li's) decision to walk from California to New York.

Li is 24 years old and has clearly set the bar high on her challenge to walk 3000+ miles with nothing more than a shopping cart full of essentials (ie: a tent) and a limited amount of money.

Li, during her journey:

Having doubts and negative thoughts are part of having a conscience.  But if we allow those types of ideas to nourish in our minds, then we've already opened the doors to failure and discontempt.

Since we are inundated with so much fear driven information from corporate media organizations who tend to focus disproportionately on "bad" news, we are constantly having to filter out an abundance of unnecessary junk.

Clearly, we see that Li has effectively taken out the garbage and is standing up to her fears by challenging herself to walk across USA.

As Li states in her interview: “When you’re on a trip like this, you get so much closer to the truth about yourself,” (Source: Woman's Solo walk across US..")
