The days are shorter and we begin to transition into a different state, both physically and mentally. As it gets colder, the body begins to crave heavier foods in preparation for the winter to come.
The geese store up on the summer grass in anticipation for a long trip
back down to the southern hemisphere while squirrels collect acorn droppings of resident trees and stash them for the cold
season. The harvests are ripe for the picking and we begin to see an abundance of root vegetables at stores and farmers markets. Squash, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and turnips are readily available this time of year and fresh smells of stew and soups begin to stir up in the kitchen.
Our body's clock slows down as our internal mechanisms conserve energy to keep warm in the fall breeze. Our shorts and t-shirts are packed away to be replaced by hooded sweaters and pants.
Let us welcome the fall as it leads us into a new phase of cultivation. It might be the perfect time to develop yourself through reading, studying, or by learning something new.
