What is SOPA?
Stop Online Piracy Act which is also known as House Bill 3261.
This is a very hot topic right now because it affects anyone who uses the internet. In short, we will lose the freedom to share and express information willingly. The government will have the ability to implement laws that favor only a small portion of the population and not the average citizen.
Fortunately, they do not have many cards to play with and big internet companies like Facebook, Reddit, and Wikipedia are not going to stand for it either.
We have truly reached a point in time where the power mongers have ruthlessly flexed their muscles in attempts of attaining "New World Order." It's just another step towards trying to control the masses in disguise through "protective" laws and such (ie: Homeland Security). Since they already run the banking infrastructure, food supply, major media, and key roles in the government (ie: Federal Reserve), the obvious next step would be to control the information portal, namely the World Wide Web.
The internet is a major threat to their goals because they cannot brainwash everyone into consuming the information that they want you to believe. Let's face it, the information that's available to this generation is unlimited in comparison to what was available to our parents/grandparents (ie: baby boomers).
In addition, if the internet was regulated and controlled by them, they will surely try to squeeze every little penny can out of us. Oh, and expect to have your privacy thrown out the window!
This is a big one.
You may not feel like you have much sway as an individual when it pertains to large issues like this, but together we can make change for the better. Wikipedia, Google, and Facebook are three major titans who are against SOPA/PIPA and are actively opening doors for you to vote against the selfish proposals.
