Osaka 101

  • A bike is necessary in Osaka
-  The geographical size of Osaka is tiny in comparison to the land mass we have available in Canada.
-  By having a bike I was able to enjoy all the big and small areas of the city.

  • The Japanese are by far the most polite people in the world
-  I think many will agree with this statement.
-  The level of service in Japan is exceptional.
-  The Japanese in general are very reserved yet generous people.  So they can be very different in comparison to the outspoken American.

  • You aren't expected to tip at restaurants in Japan
-  It always kills me to compare how poor the level of service is in Canada, where you're expected to tip.

  • Do not date your students (if you plan on teaching)
-  Trust me.  It's not worth it!

  • Australians sound like Kiwis and South Africans sound like......
-  Since Aussies, Kiwis, English (UK), Americans, and South Africans all had visa correspondence with Japan, there were plenty of different types of teachers in Osaka.
-  To me, I couldn't tell the difference between Australian accents and New Zealand accents.
-  The South Africans, were in general not understandable. (No offence)

  • If you go to a love hotel, make sure you have your credit card!
- Just make sure you have one.  You can be locked into (yes - not out of) your room if you do not pay!

  • If you go to Osaka you must try Takoyaki (Octopus balls) and Okonomiyaki (Osaka pancake)
-  Osaka's famous food.

  • If you see the photo booth (Purikura), take the pictures!
-  You will know what I'm talking about when you see it.  Yes I'm talking about the "Asian" photo booths that allow you to create custom designs and other fun stuff!
-  It's a must for couples!
