From 173lbs to 145lbs

One of my short term goals includes gaining roughly ten pounds of muscle by 2012.  I'm not sure how realistic this is, but I'm willing to give it a go!

Looking back at my history, I was at a maximum of 173lbs in University (2000-2004).  During this time, I took cycles of Creatine, Whey Protein, and Nitro-Tech.  I worked out around 5 days a week and did very little Cardio.  A typical meal plan included bacon/sausage, three eggs, hash browns, and toast for breakfast.  Two chicken breasts with salad for lunch.  Ground beef and pasta for dinner.  Often, I'd eat three huge pieces of pizza at Gino's Pizza across the street from campus.

Remember, during this time, I did not realize that I had a gluten intolerance.  Some of the symptoms I had included brain fog, diarrhea, skin rashes, and mild depression.

In the past 5 years or so, my body had gone through drastic changes.

In 2006, my health had finally caught up to me.  I lost significant weight as I spent more than a month suffering, literally living in my bath tub.  It was likely due to my excessive eating lifestyle, which included bread, pizza, etc. -- all containing gluten.

In 2007, South Korea, I had another episode and had to write off a week of teaching.

2008 was a turning point for me.  That was when I decided to fast for 8 days in Thailand.  From that point on, I learned many things about my body, health, and more importantly the beneficial effects of fasting.  Note, that I had still not realized my gluten intolerance during this time.

Fast forward to 2010-2011.  I started gluten free dieting January, 2011.  It's been roughly nine months and I now weigh between 145-147lbs.  I only eat meat once a week so I rely on beans, legumes, tofu, and nuts for my protein sources.  My goal is to get to a healthy weight of 155lbs without the use of bodybuilding supplements.  I will likely use an additional protein source such as Hemp protein.

Keep in mind that I had weighed 145lbs throughout high school.  So I am pretty much back at scratch.  Except this time I plan on building my body back up a healthier way.
